Black & Aboriginal Owned Brands You Need To Know About

VAMSBEAUTY is having their June sale and here are two brands that you shouldn’t hesitate to add to cart.

This article is highlighting two brands that work hard in their categories. Supporting Black and Aboriginal-owned brands is an active way to invest in the diversity of the beauty space.

Fly Bodd

Fly Bodd, available on VAMSBEAUTY, is a proudly 100% Aboriginal-owned and operated skincare brand founded by Ellissa Leighton, a Minjungbal woman of Bundjalung Nation from the Northern Rivers of NSW.

Ellissa's journey into skincare was driven by her passion for perfecting her own routine and a desire to simplify ingredient lists that often felt overwhelming.

"I've always had a passion for skincare in general, but this grew when I was trying to perfect my own skincare routine and was trialling many different products and brands.

I always got annoyed at the novel long ingredients list that I didn't understand and always would look up ingredients to be on top of what I was putting on my skin," Ellissa shares.

Her love for travel inspired the creation of travel-sized skincare products.

Ellissa noticed the inconvenience of oversized skincare items that either leaked or couldn't be carried on flights due to size restrictions.

The only other travel-friendly option out there was really drying on her skin, and she noticed that no one was really tapping into that market of travel-sized products.

With a vision to create something influenced by her culture, she decided to incorporate native ingredients used by her people for thousands of years.

"So with all of that in mind, I decided to make a product that would solve a problem I faced, but also one that I felt others would benefit from too!

So, in 2019 I started to create good quality travel-sized skincare products," Ellissa says.

Ellissa's goal was to craft high-quality, travel-friendly skincare that excited people about packing for their holidays.

SVNT Skin

SVNT Skin, another standout brand on VAMSBEAUTY, is a Black-owned company known for its commitment to inclusivity and innovative skincare.

Founded by Tanya Mudariki, with impressive experience in fashion and beauty across eight countries, SVNT Skin addresses both a personal journey and a larger industry gap.

Tanya's struggle with severe eczema during her childhood led her to explore both scientific and natural remedies.

Despite numerous dermatological consultations, it wasn't until she was prescribed a steroid cream that she discovered the importance of a balanced approach to skincare.

Her experiences in various countries highlighted the lack of diversity and inclusion in the skincare industry, inspiring her to make a change.

SVNT Skin was founded in 2021, and the brand fuses together design with the future of your skincare routine.

All products are cruelty-free, vegan friendly, SLS free, and paraben free.

"We believe that everyone should feel included when it comes to beauty standards—that's why every one of our items is inclusive for all genders, races, and orientations.

From product makeup to packaging – everything has been carefully considered from a diversity perspective," Tanya explains.

SVNT Skin incorporates Braille on all its packaging, ensuring accessibility for visually impaired individuals.

The brand invests in universal design, emphasising the importance of inclusive beauty.

One of SVNT Skin's flagship products is its LED mask, reflecting Tanya's fascination with the evolution of beauty technology.

The brand's mask line combines scientifically backed and natural ingredients to nourish and rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level.
