Brands that said "F*$k off" to Millennial Pink

Don't get us wrong, we are so here for pink- all kinds. We truly do not discriminate.

Especially after barbie-mania and all the joy that came along with it! However, in a pink drenched 2023 skincare scene, these brands that are anything but pink have caught our eye…

Boring Without You

For Face Sake facemask, $54

In your face in all the right ways. Boring Without You has a strong brand ethos around customer education alongside using proven ingredients at proven percentages and refusing to cater to everyone (what?! Unheard of!). Quote;

"...majority of skincare takes a one size fits all approach, barely giving parts of your face what they need...That's why it's important to use products designed just for combo skin pals."

Being bold and having no BS has paid off big time for Boring Without You, with it's co-founder David Rooney (stage name: Skincaredavey) racking up millions of views on his TikTok account.

Most recently, a tease of the TikTok stars brand has appeared on American Shark Tank, giving fans a hunch there is much more to come from the brave colour filled landscape.

The duo zone mask features two formulas, a whipped butter for the T zone of the face which contains Salicylic Acid, Niacinamide and Colloidal Oatmeal - alongside the jelly to over the U zone of the face, which contains Centella Asiatica Complex, A AHA Complex and Hydrolysed Hyaluronic- all at proven percentages.

Barni Skin

Holiday Glow serum, $49.99

Rich cobalt blue calmed down with a soft pastel yellow, Barni Skin has us looking at the near royal colour palette.

I was first introduced to the brand at the Hive HQ showcase and it immediately caught my eye. I prioritised trialling this product because it was just so pretty.

See the beads? That's encapsulated Vitamin E. During application you feel them melt into the skin and give immediate relaxation.

Left: The Complete Brow. Right: Holiday Glow Serum

The serum itself is so juicy and plush, I suspect, visually to aid the beads to suspend and efficaciously to give the most luxe experience when applied to the skin.

A drool worthy ingredient line up including not *just* a multitasker of multimolecular weight Hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide, but packed with a blend of non-vitamin C antioxidants (sensitive skin havers- rejoice!)

Extracts include Lilli Pilli, Mango, Watermelon, Pineapple and Dragon fruit. If only my skin could taste! Thankfully it can drink (sort of?) and drink it does, the Holiday Glow is exactly what my skin needs. You have a new super fan Barni Skin!

The Complete Brow

Brow Sculpt, $29.99 By The Complete Brow

Olive green screams chic but not boring. It's enough to tell it apart from other sleek beige/brown/black packaging (which has it's place) and make a statement as a daily essential. Pretty to look at, pretty to use.

A gel-wax hybrid, the brow sculpt tames thick brow hairs that has a super hold formula that provides all-day staying power, so you can flaunt your brows sculpted or fluffy.

I have thick brow hairs that grow strangely long (it's a *me* problem). The Brow Sculpt moves my thick coarse hairs around with ease and holds them all day with no flakes or fuss.

The Brow Sculpt Station hosted by Founder Nat Rolland during the Hive HQ showcase earlier in the year

Easy to apply powders or pencil on top of the faux laminated brow, it's suited for sparse brows too.

The double ended brush means you can poke and prod the brow hairs at will, so this is a travel essential for us.

Our honest thoughts?

Personally, we’re glad pink drenched cosmetics are slowly fading out. Skincare and makeup has evolved far beyond what’s inside the box or tube.

The savvy consumer is expecting more uniqueness to packaging to fit their lifestyle needs and colour preferences! We’re excited to follow where these brands are going next.

What do you think? Would you not buy because of the packaging or colour?
